KALAMAZOO, MI — Nate Shaw, Webster’s Prime supervisor at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Suites in Kalamazoo, is a nominee for the Pure Michigan 2014 Culinary Star of the Industry Award.

As such, Shaw will showcase his signature style of local foods blended with the Asian flavors of his youth in a special Chef’s Table event on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Zazios Italian Restaurant at the Radisson in Kalamazoo.

According to information provided by Greenleaf Hospitality Group, which owns Webster’s Prime and Zazios, Shaw’s showcase, “Sup with Shuko: An Homage to Bacha,” will also feature special beer, wine and sake pairings with each course.

Culinary star winners are to be announced March 10th during the 2014 Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Traverse City.

Webster’s Executive Chef and General Manager Stefan Johnson praised Shaw as a talented young cook who has risen through the ranks over the past five years to become a major factor in the restaurant’s success. Johnson said Shaw’s passion for local food is helping to elevate the role of Michigan artisan products in the Kalamazoo food scene.

He said, Shaw’s annual Farmer’s Appreciation Dinner has become a popular community-building event among local growers and vendors, while his “beer vs. wine” food pairing events have become extremely successful in highlighting and promoting Michigan’s craft beers and wines.
